Only one person on average per show attended the reopening of theaters in China

The COVID pandemic. 19 , has severely affected the film industry. Due to its status as a social gathering, distancing measures and the prevention of citizenship caused the worldwide collection to collapse. Soon after, movie theaters in the world began to close.

In China, closings began much earlier, to an extent that in some cases even spanned 60 days. And that's why now, with the number of coronavirus cases on the decline in that country, some movie theaters began to open their doors since last weekend.

The business, however, delivered a bleak picture.

Nearly zero attendance

A report from Variety indicates that more than 500 cinemas opened in China, accounting for only 5% of the country's cinemas.

In this context, the figures indicate that, on average, the rooms they only received 1 person per function Hence, together, they only raised $ 10,000, which does not even represent the collection of a cinema on a normal day.

A quarter of the reopened stores are located in Sinkiang, a city located in the northwest of China and that was not so affected by COVID-19. In addition, the collection of the venues of that city represented 80% of the total.

Other figures indicate that the first cinema to be reopened, the Xinjiang Golden Palm Cinema, failed to gather more than 100 people a day, raising no more than $ 280 dollars. But , should also be noted that their hours are not normal, since their rooms are open for around six hours and there are no major premieres on display.

That explains why the country's main distributor, the China Film Corp, launched a “public service” initiative in which theaters keep 100% of the profits from a selection of films that include hits from the past. like the four installments of The Avengers, Avatar, Inception and Interstellar.

But even that did not end up calling people to the cinema, which will surely be a challenge for the industry.
